SHE PLACED 3RD IN THE BELGRADE FRESHMAN MEET, AND FOLLOWED THAT UP WITH A 5TH PLACE FINISH AT THE CENTRAL HOME VARSITY EVENT. THE SENIOR RECEIVER CAUGHT EIGHT PASSES FOR 141 YARDS WHILE SETTING UP BOTH OF HIS TEAM’S TOUCHDOWNS. THE MAROONS PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT, BUT LOST TO THE PIRATES WITH A FINAL SCORE OF 49 TO 14. 2021-2022 School Year
Kyle Holter
The Butte Central junior placed second in the long jump and fourth in the high jump to lead the Maroons at the Class A State track meet. Holter jumped 21 feet 5 ¾ inches to take second in the pole vault. The next day he navigated a slippery runway to clear 6 feet in the high jump, missing a state title by 2 inches. On the school year, Holter earned All-State honors in football, basketball and track.
Mia Keeley
The Butte Central junior catcher hit a three-run home run to jumpstart the Maroon offence in an 11-1 Senior Day victory over Stevensville at Stodden Park.The win clinched a berth in the Class A State tournament in Hamilton. Keeley also showed off her strong arm by gunning down a would-be base stealer in the victory.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central junior shortstop went 10 for 13 at the plate to lead the Maroons to a 3-1 record at the LaVerne Combo Invitational. Badovinac’s weekend included three doubles and seven RBIs. She hit a three-run walk-off home run as BC beat Hardin 7-6. She went 5 for 5 in a Southwestern A win over Hamilton.
Kyle Holter
The Butte Central junior won the high jump for the second straight week to lead the Butte Central boys to fourth place at the Dillon invitational. Holter cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump. He also placed fifth in the long jump and posted a personal-record while taking seventh in the javelin.
Rileigh McGree
The Butte Central senior won the long jump and 100-meter hurdles at the John Tomich Invitational, a meet named after her late grandfather. McGree, a future Montana Grizzly, jumped 17-feet to capture the long jump crown. She finished the 100 hurdles in 16.34 seconds to narrowly beat Dillon star Ainsley Shipman. McGree is the defending Class A state champion in the long jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Ella Moodry
The Butte Central sophomore placed in four events at Sapphire Twilight Invitational in Corvallis. Moodry launched the javelin 108 feet, 1 inch for a victory. She is the defending Class A State champion in that event. Moodry also finished second in the high jump, fifth in the 200 meters and sixth in the long jump.
Sofee Thatcher
The Butte Central senior went 4 for 5 from the leadoff spot to help lead the Maroon to a 12-10 win over Stevensville in a Southwestern A softball game in the Bitterroot Valley. Thatcher also pitched the distance in the game, which was called after five innings by the 10-run rule. She struck out six batters.
Kinley Hamilton
The Butte Central senior had a big day for the Maroons at a meet with Missoula Sentinel, Missoula Hellgate and Butte High in Missoula. Competing for the second time this season, Hamilton won the shot put with a mark of 33 feet, 8 ½ inches. The former Chinook Sugarbeeter also placed fourth in the discus.

The Butte Central junior opened the track season with a pair of victories at the Gene Hughes Invitational in Corvallis. Two weeks after helping Butte Central win the Class A State basketball title, Holter cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to claim the win in the high jump. He posted a mark of 19 feet, 8 ¾ inches to win the long jump.

The Butte Central Boys’ Basketball Team
The Maroons beat Lewistown 61-58 Saturday night to claim the Class A State title at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. Central won thanks to Dougie Peoples’ buzzer-beating 3-pointer from 27 feet out. The victory capped BC’s 26-1 record, which is the best in team history. The title is BC’s seventh in boys’ basketball and the second in the last three years.

Dougie Peoples
The Butte Central junior score 84 points over three games to lead the Maroons the Western A Divisional title in Hamilton. Peoples scored 39 points in a 74-53 semifinal win over Frenchtown. That was three points shy of the school record, and Peoples spent most of the fourth quarter on the bench with the big lead. On the season, Peoples has 547 points.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central junior scored a total of 78 points in four games to lead Butte Central to third place at the Southwestern A District tournament in Dillon, Along the way, Badovinac set the Butte Central girls single-season scoring record, passing the great Kellie Johnson-Mead. With 502 points on the season, Badovinac will head to the Western A Divisional tournament as the sixth high school player from Butte — boy or girl — to join the 500-point club.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central junior scored 30 points to lead the Maroons in a loss at Hamilton. The 30 points brought Badovinac’s season total to 424 points. She is just the fourth Maroon girl to reach 400 points, and only the great Kellie Johnson has scored more points for the BC girls in a season. Badovinac enters the district tournament just 34 points shy of Johnson’s single-season school record.
James Holmes
The Butte Central wrestler will close his freshman season at the All-Class State tournament in Billings. Holmes qualified for the tournament by placing sixth at the 126-pound division at the Western A Divisional tournament in Frenchtown. He won a match to advance to the quarterfinals before keeping his season alive on the consolation side of the bracket.
Brooke Badovinac
The BC junior had a huge week to lead the Maroons to three wins. Badovinac scored 35 points as the Maroons knocked off Corvallis, tying Julie (Leary) Nadeau’s school record against Class A competition. In the three wins, Badovinac scored a total of 81 points. She scored 23 points in wins over Livingston and East Helena.
Sofee Thatcher
The Butte Central senior guard flirted with a triple double as the Maroons dropped a 58-54 home decision to Hamilton. Thatcher scored 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Maroons nearly upset the 10-2 Broncs.
Dougie Peoples
The Butte Central junior guard poured in 22 points to lead the Maroons to a 58-28 win over Stevensville at the Maroon Activities Center. The wire-to-wire victory ran BC’s record to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Southwestern A play. The 6-foot-4 Peoples is averaging 20.1 points per game to pace the unbeaten Maroons.
Mollie Drew
The Butte Central sophomore had her best game of her career to help a shorthanded BC team knock off Frenchtown for a key Southwestern A win. In addition to scoring a career-high nine points, Drew was also a force on defense and on the boards for the Maroons, who were missing a starter and a key reserve player in the win.
Bryson Richards
The Butte Central senior guard sank four 3-pointers and scored 12 points to help lead the Maroons to a 65-37 win over Butte High at the Butte Civic Center. Sestrich’s big night included a buzzer-beating 3-pointer just before halftime that sent the Maroons into the break with serious momentum. The victory put BC at 6-0 at the Christmas break.
Dougie Peoples
The Butte Central junior scored 32 points as the Maroons rolled their record to 4-0 with a 56-42 win over rival Dillon at the Maroon Activities Center.
The big game brought Peoples’ scoring average to 19.5 points per game. Last season, Peoples averaged 19.3 points per game to lead the Maroons to Saturday of the Class A State tournament. That was the 10th highest scoring average in school history.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central junior scored a total of 48 points as the Maroons went 1-1 at the Western A Tipoff Tournament in Frenchtown. Badovinac tossed in 22 points to help lead the Maroons to a lopsided win over Polson. The next night, she sank five 3-poiners and scored 26 points in a loss to Bigfork.

Eyston Lakkala
The Butte Central senior closed out his prep football career with three touchdowns in a 41-14 Senior Night win over Stevensville. Lakkala racked up 89 yards on just eight carries. He scored on runs of 1, 52 and 4 yards in the victory. He is also a leader of the BC defense at linebacker.
Mia Keeley
One day after the funeral of her grandmother, the junior setter returned to the team and led Butte Central to a 3-1 performance at the Blocktober Classic. Keeley set 68 assists as the Maroons battled their way to third place in bracket No. 2.
Sofee Thatcher
The Butte Central senior tallied 11 kills, 25 digs and three aces to lead the Maroons to a four-set victory over Frenchtown. The victory came as the Maroons held a Pink Out Night to benefit recent Butte High graduate Abby Ricketts and her fight with cancer. Earlier in the week, Thatcher registered eight kills and eight digs in a three-set sweep at East Helena.
Ella Moodry
The sophomore led the Maroons as the overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off perennial Class A power Corvallis in five sets at the Maroon Activities center. Moodry spiked 19 kills to go along with 15 digs and two blocks. Earlier in the week, Moodry tallied 16 kills and 11 digs as the Maroons went to Dillon to win in four sets.
Kyle Holter
The Butte Central junior caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown as Butte Central gave head coach Don Peoples Jr. his 200th victory with a 44-0 homecoming win over Corvallis. Holter caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Luke Garrison. He returned a punt 45 yards for a score. Holter also picked off a pass and returned it deep into Corvallis territory.
Jack Keeley
The Butte Central sophomore had a hand in both of BC’s touchdowns in a loss to top-ranked Hamilton. After taking over at quarterback because of an injury, Keely ran for a 5-yard touchdown. Then he hit Kyle Holter for a 14-yard TD strike.
James Holmes
The Butte Central freshman ran to 12th place at the Butte Central Invitational cross country meet at Fairmont Hot Springs. Holmes finished the 5-kilometer race on the historically slow course in 22 minutes, 13 seconds. He beat his previous best time by 50 seconds.
Eyston Lakkala
The Butte Central senior had a huge game to help the Maroons roll to a 37-0 win at Browning. Lakkala rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries in BC’s first game of the season. He scored on runs of 7, 2 and 7 yards.
2020-2021 School Year
Rileigh McGree
The Butte Central junior captured three gold medals at the Class A State meet in Laurel. One day after extending her family streak to five with a championship in the long jump, McGree won gold in the 100- and 300-meter relay races. She posted a personal-best time of 46.09 seconds to win the 300 hurdles. McGree registered a PR with a time of 15.63 in the 100 relay preliminaries.
The Butte Central softball team
The Maroons used a pair of clutch performances to knock off Stevensville twice last week, locking up a berth in the Class A State tournament at Stodden Park. The young Butte Central squad beat the Yellowjackets 9-0 in Stevensville. The next day, BC rallied from three runs down to beat Stevi 7-5 in Butte.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central sophomore hit a three-run walk-off home run as Butte Central came from behind to beat Libby 12-9at Stodden Park. The hit was the highlight of the LaVerne Combo Invitational. Badovinac and the Maroons went 3-1 in the tournament.
Maci Reopelle
The Butte Central senior pitcher struck out 12 batters and surrendered just three hits as the Maroons beat Hamilton 5-1 in a key Southwestern A softball game in Hamilton. The one Hamilton run was unearned. Reopelle, who struck out the side in three innings, also smacked a hit in the game. She added a base knock later in the day as the Maroons fell at Corvallis.
Ella Moodry
The Butte Central freshman busted off a long jump of 17 feet, 3 inches to beat teammate Rileigh McGree by one inch at the John Tomich Invitational in Butte. Moodry beat her previous top mark by 2 feet, one inch. She is also a standout for the Maroons in the sprints and in the javelin. She also lettered in volleyball and basketball as a freshman.
Eric Hart
The Butte Central junior played his first ever tennis matches Saturday at Stodden Park, and he went 2-0 against Corvallis and Hamilton. After dropping the first set, Hart battled back to win a thrilling tiebreaker against Corvallis. Then he dusted off his Hamilton opponent in straight sets.
Brooke Badovinac
The Butte Central sophomore had a huge day as the Maroons picked up their first win of the season. Badovinac went 3 for 3 with a triple, double and four runs batted in to lead the Maroons to a 17-0 win over the Beavers in Dillon. She also scored three runs and played solid defense at shortstop.
Riley Gelling
The Butte Central sophomore had a big day as the Maroons competed with Butte High and Kalispell Glacier at the Gene Fogarty Complex. Gelling launched the shot put 39 feet, 4 inches for the victory. The mark was the personal best for Gelling, who also posted a PR in the javelin.
Rileigh McGree
The Butte Central junior opened the 2021 track season by posting a pair of victories at the Gene Hughes Invitational in Corvallis. McGree, who is a little more than a year removed from knee surgery, won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.50 seconds. She also won the 200-meter race, clocking in with a victories time of 27.55 seconds.
Drew Badovinac
After a season of being a steady defensive force for the Maroons, the Butte Central junior broke out offensively to help lead the Maroons to Saturday of the Class A State tournament. Badovinac, who scored 25 total points in 15 regular-season games, scored 61 points in Butte Central’s seven postseason contests. He also kept up his top-notch defense in crunch time.

The Butte Central sophomore came up big when his team need him most at the Western A Divisional basketball tournament. Holter scored all of his 16 points in the second half as the Maroons knocked off Ronan in the tournament opener. Then he poured in a team-high 16 points to lead BC past Hamilton to secure a berth in the Class A State tournament.

The Butte Central sophomore hit a 15-foot jumper with 3 seconds left to lift the Maroons to a 38-36 win over Frenchtown at the Maroon Activities Center. The victory gave the Maroons, who are just one year removed from a 1-18 season, the Southwestern A regular-season title. Badovinac scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter to help BC pull out the crucial win.

The Maroon junior guard hit five 3 pointers and poured in 23 points as the Butte Central boys’ basketball team capped a 3-0 week with a 61-48 home win over Corvallis. Central also beat Livingston and Stevensville on the week. Sestrich scored a total 38 points in those two victories. Sestrich has connected on 22 3-point shots in 12 games. Avery Kelly
The Butte Central senior poured in a season-best 13 point to lead the Maroons past Dillon, completing a 3-0 week. The victory came two days after Kelly scored nine points to help lead BC to a 43-22 Senior Night win over Anaconda. Earlier in the week, Kelly scored four points in a win at Dillon. The unselfish 5-foot-7 senior has been a force off the bench for the red-hot Maroons all season.
John Crossman
The Butte Central senior went 1-1 to celebrate Senior Parent Night during a mixer at the Maroon Activities Center. Crossman is Central’s lone senior. After advancing to state as a heavyweight in 2020, Crossman dropped to 205 pounds the season. At the BC mixer, Crossman pinned Jesse Hughes of Dillon in 1 minute, 32 seconds. He then fell in a tough match against Hamilton heavyweight Cadogan Wheat.
Sofee Thatcher
The Butte Central junior poured in 17 points to lead the way as the Maroons bounced back from their first loss of the season for a 56-30 win over Stevensville. Thatcher, who scored 11 points in the loss at Frenchtown the night before, also pulled down eight rebounds. The Maroons are now 4-1 on the season.
Dougie Peoples
The Butte Central sophomore scored 31 points as the Maroons fell 60-58 in a Southwestern A game in Corvallis. The career-high performance came two nights after Peoples scored 18 points as the Maroons beat Three Forks 49-40 in Butte. Through three games, Peoples is averaging 24 points per game.
Sofee Thatcher
The Butte Central junior guard scored 11 points to help lead Butte Central’s girls’ basketball team to a season-opening win over Livingston at the Maroon Activities Center. Thatcher also pulled down seven rebounds and dropped five dimes as the Maroons picked up their first victory in 384 days.
Luke Garrison
The Butte Central sophomore quarterback passed for 156 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Maroons in a season-ending loss to Glendive in Lockwood. Garrison threw touchdown passes to Konnor Pochervina and Kyle Holter. Making his first career start, Garrison also ran for 108 tough yards on 22 carries.
Sophia Burton
The Butte Central senior libero led an inspired Maroon effort in a Southwestern A home loss to Dillon. Burton was the lone varsity regular to play for the Maroons, who were forced to put a mostly junior varsity squad on the floor for the key match because of coronavirus quarantining. Burton collected 16 digs to lead the way as the Maroons went down fighting.
Ella Moodry
The Butte Central freshman hitter spiked a team-leading 16 kills as the Maroons went to Dillon to knock off the rival Beavers in a four-set Southwestern A volleyball match. Moodry also registered five digs and an ace in the victory. A night earlier, Moodry led the Maroons with 11 kills in a four-set loss at Frenchtown.

The Butte Central junior quarterback passed for 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Maroons went to Livingston to beat the Rangers 33-14 for their first win of the season. Badovinac hit Dougie Peoples for a 24-yard score before finding Joseph Sehulster for a 37-yard touchdown. On defense, Badovinac also picked off a pass to end a Livingston scoring threat.

The Butte Central senior carried the ball 23 times for 159 yards and a touchdown to lead the Maroons in home loss to a powerful Libby team. Through three games, Lester has racked up 349 yards on 71 carries. That is an average of 4.9 yards per carry. He ran for 282 yards over the last two games.
Avery Kelly
The Butte Central senior led the way as the Maroons bounced back from a five-set home loss to Anaconda with a five-set victory at Livingston. Kelly, 6-foot middle blocker, spiked 13 kills in the victory. She also registered three solo blocks and two aces.
Konnor Pochervina
The Butte Central sophomore running back caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown for the Maroons in a season-opening home loss to Frenchtown. Pochervina’s night included a 22-yard touchdown reception from Luke Garrison on a trick play, tying the score 21 seconds before halftime. Pochervina, who also plays linebacker, stood out defensively, as well.

Senior Spotlight
Jayden Mitchell
In his years at BC, Mitchell was known for his hard work and dedication. That stands out even if he never earned All-State honors while logging long miles for the Maroon cross country and track teams. He competed at the state meet three times. Mitchell will now put his hard-working mindset to work for his country. He has enlisted into the Army National Guard.
Cole Johnson
Johnson was a multi-sport athlete his days at Butte Central. He played four years of golf for the Maroons. He qualified for the Class A State tournament, missing all-conference by one shot as a senior. An Academic All-State player, Johnson was also a force the Butte Blizzard lacrosse team in Butte. He has been a key player as the program tries to establish roots in the Mining City.
Sophie Sullivan
Sullivan was a key player on the back row of Butte Central’s volleyball team for multiple years. As a senior, Sullivan’s defensive prowess helped lead the Maroons to the Class A State volleyball tournament for the first time since 2015. Sullivan was also a standout on the tennis court teaming up with doubles partner Tess Riordan for the Maroons.
Cutter Thatcher
Nobody was hurt more by the cancellation of the spring season than Thatcher. After medaling in four events at the Class A State meet as a junior, Thatcher was primed to be a gold medal favorite in several events in 2020. As it is, Thatcher did more than enough to showcase his talents in his plague-shortened career. In February, he signed to run track at the University of Montana.
Ryan Wahl
Ryan Wahl competed in four sports in his years at Butte Central. In addition to helping the Maroons win the Class A State boys’ basketball title, Wahl golfed and competed in track at Butte Central. He figured to be a contender in the throwing events this spring. Wahl also developed into one of the best pitchers in the Class A, leading the Butte Miners to a fast start this season.
Makala & Zoe Doherty
The Doherty cousins were major contributors on the Butte Central softball team from the time they stepped foot in the school. Makala Doherty, also a force on the volleyball court, played first base and pitched for the Maroons. She was looking forward to a solid season in the pitcher’s circle. Zoe Doherty played second base and was a prototypical no. 2 hitter in the Butte Central lineup.
Luke Heaphy
Missoula Loyola’s loss was a huge gain for butte central in the case of Heaphy, who moved to Butte from Missoula to contribute four years to the Maroon Varsity basketball team. Heaphy was a key figure in leading the Maroons to their first Class A State boys’ basketball title in 28 years. He also joined the football team as a senior because his buddies on the team needed him.
Gator Yelenich
Yelenich was a key contributor for the Maroon Varsity Squad for three seasons. Over that stretch, the Maroons went 58-19. The Maroons, of course, went to Billings and brought home the school’s first boys’ basketball State Title in 28 years in March. Last October, Yelenich earned All-State Honors by tying for 15th place at the Class A State golf tournament.
Thomas McGree
McGree was a role player on Butte Central’s basketball team, helping the Maroons capture their first state title in 28 years. Before that, McGree put up a great season for the Maroons on the football field. He passed for 19 touchdowns and ran for 11 more, playing with a cast on his left hand most of the season. McGree will take his career to the Carroll football team.
Cassidy Strizic
Strizic played volleyball, basketball and softball for the Maroons. She left her biggest mark on the volleyball court. As a senior, the hard-thumping outside hitter helped lead the Maroons to the Class A State volleyball tournament for the first time in four years. Strizic, who was named All-State as senior, was a key player as the Maroons placed third at the Western A Divisional tournament.
Braden Harrington
Harrington was a three-year varsity contributor for Butte Central’s boys basketball team. By the end of his senior season, he was one of the best players in the Class A, earning all-state honors while helping lead the Maroons to their first state title in 28 years. On the football field, Harrington was a key player for a team that won five out of it’s last six games to make the playoffs.
Jared and Matt Simkins
When the Butte Central brothers were finally 100 percent healthy at the same time, the result was a state championship for the Maroons. The Simkins twins played a huge role in the BC basketball team bringing home the Class A State title from Billings. They also stood out in football and track. Matt will play football at the University of Montana. Jared has turned down offers to play at the next level. So Far.
Aaron Richards
For four years, Richards was a three-sport standout for the Maroons. He is an All-State offensive lineman who will take his talents to the Montana State Bobcats. He also earned All-State accolades by placing fifth in the discus at the state meet last year. Richards was also a key member of the Butte Central basketball team, which brought the Maroons their first State Title in 28 years.
Emma Keeley
Emma Keeley has been a three-sport contributor for the Maroons from the first day she walked through the doors at Butte Central. Keeley lettered four times in volleyball and four times basketball for the Maroons. If the softball season is allowed to begin, Keeley will become one of the few Butte athletes to earn 12 varsity letters in her career.
Guido Ossello
As a sophomore, Ossello decided to walk away from football to play golf for Butte Central. This fall, he will join the football team at the University of Montana. Ossello hit a growth spurt and rejoined the BC football team as a junior. He was a captain for the Maroons last fall. Ossello hauled in 39 passes for the 688 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. He averaged 17.9 yards per catch while earning All-State honors as a receiver. Ossello was selected to represent the West Side in the 2020 Montana East-West Shrine Game. On the tennis court, Ossello was looking to compete for a trip to the Class A State tournament for the fourth straight year.

Butte Central Boys Basketball Team
The Maroons brought home their first State Champion in nearly 3 decades. Butte Central beat Billings Central before pummeling Browning in the Semifinals to advance to the Championship game in Billings. That title game was called off because of the coronavirus pandemic, and the Maroons and Hardin Bulldogs were declared Co-Champions. The title is the first since the Maroons captured the 1992 crown in Billings. Congratulations Butte Central Boys Basketball Team!

Central qualified for the tournament with a third-place showing at the Western A Divisional Tournament in Ronan. The Butte Central Senior twins combined to score 50 points in four games at the Western A Divisionals in Ronan. Jared scored 29 total points, while Matt tossed in 21. The brothers also played their usual lights-out defense and made countless hustle plays to lead Butte Central to third place and yet another trip to the Class A State Tournament. The Butte Central Junior took a break from basketball practice Monday afternoon to sign an NAIA National Letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Jamestown. In addition to playing baseball and basketball, Wahl is also a standout on the Butte Central track team. Congratulations to this weeks athlete of the week Ryan Wahl!

The Butte Central Senior sank four 3-pointers and scored 17 points to help Butte Central close the Southwestern A regular season with a 65-48 win at Corvallis. The victory secured the regular-season title for the Maroons, who will be the No. 1 seed for the Southwestern A in the March 3-5 Western A Divisional tournament in Ronan. John Crossman
The Butte Central Junior heavyweight placed seventh at the Western A Divisional wrestling tournament in Ronan. The placing qualifies Crossman for the Class A state tournament in Billings. The feat comes after the former Butte High Bulldog had to miss the varsity football season and the first half of the wrestling season because of transfer rules. Gunnar Yelenich
The Butte Central Sophomore had a big weekend on the mats for the Maroons. The 120 pound Yelenich went 5-0 while competing at mixers in Butte and Deer Lodge. He went 2-0 at Butte Central’s mixer at the Maroon Activity Center. A day later, Yelenich went 3-0 in Deer Lodge. Congratulations Gunnar Yelenich, this week’s athlete of the week!

The Butte Central Junior scored a total of 22 points in home games against Stevensville and Frenchtown. That includes a 15-point performance in the Maroon’s hard-fought loss to Frenchtown.
Trevor Neumann
The Butte Central Senior scored a career high 20 points to lead Butte Central to a 65-56 non-conference win at Livingston. Neumann shot a perfect 6 for 6 from 3-point land, falling one trey shy of the school record shared by Luke Stajcar, Shaugh McKeon and Jonathan Richards.
Braden Harrington
The Butte Central Senior scored a total of 30 points as the Maroons rolled their record to 9-0 with wins over Dillon and Livingston. Harrington scored 15 points Friday night in Dillon. Less than 24 hours later, he scored 15 points in a home win over the Rangers. Harrington is averaging a team-leading 16.7 points per game.
Ryan Wahl
The Butte Central Senior came off the bench to score all of his nine points in the second half to help the Maroons win 54-31 in Hamilton. The Maroons outscored the Broncs 34-12 to break open a game they lead 20-19 at halftime. BC coach Brodie Kelly said Wahl was the game changer in the win.
Trevor Neumann
The Butte Central Senior played the best game of his career in helping the Maroons beat Butte High 72-66 at the Butte Civic Center. Neumann hit four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 16 points in the victory.
Braden Harrington
The Butte Central Senior scored 14 points to lead the Maroons to a 54-21 home opening win over Belgrade. Harrington’s performance came a week after he scored 49 points in two BC wins at the Tipoff Tournament in Frenchtown. He scored a career-high 33 points as the Maroons beat Ronan in the tournament finale.
The Butte Central Volleyball Team
The Maroons qualified for the Class A State Volleyball tournament for the first time since 2015 by placing third at the Western A Divisional tournament in Dillon. Central heads to state with a 16-5 overall record. They brought home the third-place trophy after placing second in the Southwestern A with a mark of 8-2.
Trevor Neumann
The Butte Central Senior receiver caught five passes for 205 yards to lead the Maroons in their playoff loss at Libby. Playing in his final high school football game, Neumann hauled in two touchdown passes. He scored on plays of 52 and 75 yards.
Egan Lester
The Butte Central Junior ran for 128 yards and a touchdown to help lead Butte Central to a 21-14 playoff clinching win at Columbia Falls. Lester, who ran for 579 yards on the regular season, did his damage on 25 carries. He also had a 45 yard touchdown run called back by penalty.
Maci Reopelle
The Butte Central Junior led the Maroons to the consolation title of the annual Blocktober Classic at the Maroon Activities Center. On the tournament, Reopelle posted team highs with 21 kills, 36 assists and 47 digs. She also served four aces, one off the team lead and registered a block.
Guido Ossello
The Butte Central Senior receiver hauled in six passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns as the Maroons beat Browning 42-6. Ossello scored on receptions of 31 and 57 yards. Through seven games, Ossello has racked up 35 receptions for 658 yards and six touchdowns.
Gator Yelenich
The Butte Central Senior earned All-State honors by tying for 15th at the Class A State golf tournament in Laurel. That came one week after Yelenich took home all-conference honors by placing 12th at the Western A Divisional tournament in Frenchtown. All-State honors go to the top 15 individuals, a distinction Yelenich missed by two shots as a junior.

The Butte Central Senior Quarterback had a hand in six touchdowns for the second straight game as the Maroons rolled to a 47-12 win at Stevensville. McGree ran for three scores and passed for three more to lead BC to its second win as many weeks. The week before, McGree had four TD runs and two TD tosses in a 38-6 home win against Corvallis.

The Butte Central Senior quarterback ran for four touchdowns and passed for two more to lead Butte Central to a 38-6 win over Corvallis. McGree, playing with a broken left hand, passed for 248 yards and ran for 129 as the Maroons picked up their first win of the season.

The Butte Central Senior pounded 14 kills to leaad the Maroons to a four-set victory over Livingston in BC’s home opener. Strizic also collected 10 digs and registered a block in the victory.

The Butte Central Senior closed the book on her stellar high school career by defending her state title in the long jump. McGree jumped 17 feet, 10 1/2 inches for the victory. That is 7 inches further than her winning mark in 2018.

The Butte Central Junior won the discus at the Western A Divisional track meet in Butte. Richards’ winning mark was 142 feet, 6 inches. He will also throw the shot put for the Maroons at the Class A State meet in Laurel.

The Butte Central Junior went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs to lead the Maroons to a 9-4 Southwestern A over Dillon. The home run was a moonshot two-run blast to center field, putting the Maroons on top 4-0 in the third inning.

The Butte Central Senior jumped 16 feet, 10 inches into the wind to win the long jump for the fourth straight year at the John Tomich Invitational Track Meet. The meet is named after McGree’s grandfather. She also won the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 12.29 seconds.

The Butte Central Junior won the 400-meter race to lead the Maroons to a strong showing in a meet in Bozeman. He also placed third in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

The Butte Central Senior guard scored 14 points to lead BC to a 43-40 win over Hamilton in the championship game of the Southwestern A District basketball tournament. Joyce was voted MVP of the tournament.

The Butte Central Senior hit a shot from beyond half court as time expired to send the Butte Central boys’ basketball game to overtime. Holter, who scored 14 points to lead the Maroons in the game, now has four made shots from beyond half court in his varsity career.

The Butte Central Junior led the Maroons at the Western A Divisional tournament in Whitefish. In two matches, Strizic tallied 25 kills, 27 digs and six aces as the Maroons went down fighting at the end of a strong season.

The Butte Central Junior setter served up 94 assists in four matches to lead the Maroons at the Southwestern A District Tournament in Dillon. She tallied 21 assists as the Maroons punched their ticket to divisionals with a win over Hamilton.

The Butte Central Senior closed his prep football career with 123 yards and four touchdowns in the Maroons’ season-ending loss at Corvallis. Fisher closed the season with 819 yards and 10 touchdown in eight games.

The Butte Central Senior running back ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Maroons in a 41-26 loss to Dillon. Fisher, also a defensive force for the Maroons, scored on runs of 1 and 10 yards.

The Butte Central Junior receiver caught five passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Maroons to a 35-21 win at Libby. Simkins scored on receptions of 51 and 61 yards. He was also a force on defense in BC’s bounce back win.

The Butte Central Senior won the Old Works Invitational, shooting a 3-over-par 75 on the second day of the two-day tournament. Joyce has won all five tournaments the Maroons have competed in this season. The last two include top Class AA competition.

The Butte Central doubles team placed second at the Southwestern A Divisional meet in the Bitterroot Valley. Together, Johnson, a Senior, and Ossello, a Sophomore, will be making their second trip to Class A State tournament.

The Butte Central Sophomore won the shot put with a mark of 45 feet, 1 and a half inches at the Dillon Night Meet. Richards, who competed at the meet at the Class A State meet last year, also placed third in the discus.

The Butte Central Junior leaped a season-best 17 feet, 2 inches to win the John Tomich Invitational long jump title for the third straight year. McGree ran a personal best to place second in the 100-meter dash in the meet named in honor of her grandfather.

The Butte Central Junior made a spectacular debut for the Butte Central tennis team. Gonzalez, a foreign exchange student from Spain, beat Hamilton star Alex Raymond in a three-set thriller as the Maroons opened the season with a 4-3 win over the Broncs.

The Butte Central Senior closed out her high school hoops career wit a strong performance at the Class A State tournament in Great Falls. Bolton’s lock-down defense was a key to Butte Central’s success all season.

The Butte Central Senior posted back-to-back double-doubles to lead the Maroons to Southwestern A home wins over Frenchtown and Stevensville. Michelotti scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Frenchtown. Less than 24 hours later, Michelotti went for 15 points and 10 boards as BC down Stevi.

The Butte Central Junior guard scored 19 points to lead Butte Central to a 57-39 victory over Butte High. The victory stopped BC’s three-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. Two days later, McCloskey scored 10 points to help the Maroons knock off Corvallis.
Megan Michelotti
The Butte Central Senior post scored a career-high 21 points to lead Butte Central to road victory over Livingston. Michelotti, who returned to the Maroons after taking her junior season off, is averaging 11.4 points per game. She is also one of the top rebounders in the Class A.

The Butte Central Junior guard scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter as the Maroons overcame a late 12-point deficit to beat Belgrade in overtime. Joyce, who hit two 3-pointers in the stretch, also keyed BC’s relentless full-court defense in the comeback.

The Butte Central Junior led the Maroons in scoring in home wins over Stevensville and Frenchtown. McCloskey scored 12 points as the Maroons downed Frenchtown 46-39. Less than a day later, McCloskey tossed in 16 points in a 52-46 win over Stevensville.

The Butte Central Senior guard scored a total of 23 points to lead the Maroons to two wins at the Tip-off tournament in Missoula. Central beat Whitefish and Polson on the University of Montana campus. Thatcher led the Maroons in scoring despite missing half of the Polson game to take the ACT.

The Butte Central Junior returned from injury to catch four passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Maroons to a playoff-clinching win over Corvallis. Holter, who started at quarterback before suffering an injury, switched positions for the final regular-season game.

The Butte Central Sophomore quarterback had a hand in four touchdowns to lead the Maroons to a 34-0 win over the Yellowjackets in Stevensville. McGree threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in the crucial win.

The Butte Central Senior finished the Mountain West Classic in 18 minutes, 5 seconds to lead the Maroons. McGeehan placed 143rd in a meet that drew 500 runners from around the northwest. A week before, McGeehan finished the Butte Invitational in 17:58.

The Butte Central Junior Quarterback had a hand in five first-half touchdowns to lead the Maroons to a 49-7 victory over Whitefish. Holter passed for three TDs and ran for two more.
